Dhaka, July 28 (V7N) — The interim government has officially approved an upgrade in the salary structure for head teachers of all government primary schools across Bangladesh. A notification issued by the Ministry of Finance confirmed that all 65,502 head teachers will now receive salaries under the 10th grade pay scale.
The announcement was made through a press release issued on Monday by Abdullah Shibli Sadiq, Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. The government said this decision reflects a significant step toward recognizing the pivotal role teachers play in nation-building.
"Teachers are the main craftsmen of nation-building. Increasing their financial opportunities is essential for improving the quality of education," the release stated.
This reform follows a verdict in Civil Review Petition No. 124/2022, in which the Supreme Court directed the salary scale upgrade of 45 head teachers from the 11th to the 10th grade. In line with that ruling, the government has now extended the benefit to all head teachers, upgrading the pay scale from 11th grade (for trained teachers) and 12th grade (for untrained teachers) to the 10th grade.
The ministry emphasized that this long-awaited move will ensure financial security, enhance the social standing of head teachers, and motivate them to engage more creatively in advancing primary education standards.
Calling the decision "groundbreaking," the notification expressed optimism that this step will bring about a dynamic transformation in the country’s primary education system. It added that with support from fellow teachers, parents, and community stakeholders, head teachers are expected to elevate the quality of education to new heights.
The government reiterated its respect and commitment to educators and expressed hope that this positive shift will drive meaningful progress in the primary education sector.
