Dhaka, Aug 04 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Saulahuddin Ahmed stated on Monday that the party is ready to sign the July Charter at any time. Speaking at a press conference at his Gulshan residence, he emphasized BNP's willingness to cooperate fully in the implementation of the Charter.
Saulahuddin said that BNP responded with some amendments to the July Charter on July 30, demonstrating maximum cooperation. He highlighted the historical and political significance of the July Declaration and recalled that BNP had earlier responded to the proposal in February.
He noted BNP’s disagreement with including March 26 in the proposal and said the party supports state and constitutional recognition through the Fourth Schedule. He added that if the amendments proposed by BNP are not accepted, the party will issue its response after reviewing the final declaration.
Addressing concerns about BNP’s cooperation, Saulahuddin dismissed rumors that the party is reluctant to sign the Charter without certain assurances. He reiterated BNP’s commitment to fostering anti-fascist unity.
Regarding the consensus commission’s work, he mentioned that out of 19 basic reform issues, BNP agreed on 12 and dissented on 7.
Saulahuddin also revealed that BNP has not yet received an invitation to the declaration ceremony at Manik Mia Avenue.
