DHAKA, June 19 (V7N) – Bangladesh continues to see a significant rise in dengue fever cases as 288 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours leading up to this morning. The increase comes as the nation enters its peak dengue season, typically characterized by hot and wet periods.
According to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the Barishal Division reported the highest number of new hospitalizations with 104 patients. Other affected regions include Chattogram (39), Dhaka division (18), Dhaka North City Corporation (20), Dhaka South City Corporation (35), Khulna (7), Mymensingh (4), Rajshahi (18), and Rangpur (3).
The total number of dengue cases reported nationwide this year has now climbed to 6,926. So far, 30 deaths have been attributed to the mosquito-borne disease in 2025. While 6,103 individuals have been discharged from hospitals, the growing daily admissions highlight a developing public health concern.
The current transmission rate for 2025 is higher than during the same period last year, though it remains below 2023 levels, which saw the country's worst-ever dengue outbreak. In 2023, Bangladesh recorded a total of 101,214 cases and 575 deaths.
Public health experts are urging immediate and comprehensive measures to control the Aedes mosquito population and prevent a more severe outbreak as the monsoon season progresses. The 21-30 age group appears to be the most affected, and experts attribute the surge in cases outside Dhaka to factors such as inadequate mosquito control and low public awareness.
