Dhaka, May 01 (V7N)– Today marks a historic day in the global struggle for workers' rights, as Bangladesh joins the international community in observing May Day, also known as International Workers' Day. The day commemorates the Chicago labor movement of May 1, 1886, where workers sacrificed their lives demanding dignity, fair wages, and an eight-hour workday.
This year's central program in Bangladesh is being held at the China Friendship Conference Center, with participation from government officials, labor leaders, and workers.
Various political parties and labor organizations have issued statements emphasizing the importance of respecting labor rights and ensuring fair treatment and wages for the country's workforce. They called on all to raise their voices in defense of workers' dignity and well-being.
May Day is a public holiday in around 80 countries, including Bangladesh. In others, it is observed unofficially or through private celebrations.
