Teknaf, Sept 20 (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 440,000 yaba tablets worth an estimated Tk 13 crore 20 lakh in two separate operations along the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar. No one was arrested in either operation.
The operations were conducted early Saturday in the Hoikhyang and Hnila border areas by members of the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), according to BGB sources.
At around 2:10am, a special patrol team from the Hoikhyang Border Outpost (BOP), acting on intelligence, conducted an operation in the Lalur Fishery area near the border.
BGB personnel spotted a person entering Bangladesh from Myanmar and challenged him. The individual fled toward a nearby village, leaving behind a polythene bag.
A search of the bag led to the recovery of 40,000 yaba tablets packed in four blue airtight packets wrapped in khaki-coloured packaging.
In a separate operation around 3am, another special patrol team from the Hnila BOP conducted a raid in the Shmashanghat border area.
According to BGB, four people carrying sacks were seen entering Bangladesh from Myanmar. When challenged by BGB personnel, they abandoned the sacks near Shmashanghat and fled toward a nearby village.
A subsequent search of the abandoned sacks resulted in the recovery of 400,000 yaba tablets packed in 40 blue airtight packets wrapped in khaki-coloured packaging.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), confirmed the seizures.
He said intelligence surveillance had been strengthened to identify drug suppliers and smugglers and bring them under the law.
