Cox’s Bazar, Sept. 14 (V7N) — Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency lawmaker and Cox’s Bazar district BNP President Shahjahan Chowdhury has called for a united social resistance against drug trafficking, abduction and human trafficking in Teknaf.
He said no political identity, influence or patronage would be allowed to shield criminals from the law.
Shahjahan Chowdhury made the remarks at a rally and public meeting against drugs, abduction and human trafficking in the Kachhapia area of Baharchhara Union in Teknaf at around 3 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 12).
“Drug trafficking, abduction and human trafficking are direct threats to the safety and future of the people of Teknaf. It is not enough to merely conduct operations against these crimes; their roots must be eliminated,” he said.
“No political identity, influence or patronage can protect drug dealers, abductors or human traffickers from the law. Whoever the offender may be, they must be brought to justice,” he added.
He further said, “Teknaf will not be allowed to become a haven for criminals. The administration and law-enforcement agencies must work more strictly and in a coordinated manner with the people.”
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) S.M. Anik Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station Mohammad Saiful Islam, Teknaf Upazila BNP President Hasan Siddiqui, General Secretary Shahadat Hossain, Baharchhara Union Parishad Chairman Amzad Hossain Khokon, local elected representatives and people from various sections of society attended the rally.
Speakers at the meeting stressed the need to build a strong local resistance against drug trafficking, abduction and human trafficking. Local residents were also urged to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies by providing information about criminal activities and those involved in such offences.
Later, Shahjahan Chowdhury visited the proposed site for the Kachhapia Police Investigation Centre under the jurisdiction of Teknaf Police Station.
