Pabna, Sept 14 (V7N) — Police have claimed to have solved the murder of onion trader Abdul Aziz, 55, in Pabna's Santhia Upazila and arrested three people allegedly involved in the killing.

According to police, Aziz was killed in an attempt to seize money he had kept with him from his onion business, and his body was later dumped in a pond.

Pabna Superintendent of Police Abu Ashraf disclosed the details at a press briefing held at his office on Sunday evening.

The arrested suspects were identified as Mansur Ali, 34, son of Dulal Pramanik of Danga Majgram village in Santhia; Selim Pramanik, 40, son of Abu Samad Pramanik; and Akash Molla, 29, son of Humis Ali Molla. All three are neighbours of the deceased.

According to the police superintendent, Aziz's body was recovered from a pond in the Miyapur Minarpara area of Khetupara Union in Santhia on Sept. 7. He was unmarried and usually kept money from his business with him, a fact that some of his neighbours allegedly knew.

Police said their investigation indicated that Aziz was killed on the night of Sept. 7 with the intention of taking the money he had with him. His body was subsequently dumped in the pond.

Following a complaint from the victim's relatives, a murder case was filed with Santhia Police Station. The case was registered as Case No. 11 on Sept. 9, 2026.

During the autopsy, doctors found a cut wound on Aziz's neck, along with injuries caused by a sharp weapon to his back and neck, police said.

Using information technology and other investigative techniques, police initially arrested Selim and Mansur on suspicion of involvement in the murder. They were produced before a court, which granted police a three-day remand against a seven-day remand plea.

Police said Selim and Mansur allegedly confessed during interrogation and provided details about the killing. Acting on information obtained from them, police arrested Akash from his home in Danga Majgram early Saturday.

According to police, the suspects divided the money taken from Aziz among themselves after the killing. Police recovered Tk 4,500 from Selim.

During interrogation, Selim and Mansur allegedly said they each received Tk 6,000, while Akash received Tk 4,000 from the money taken from the victim.

Another suspect, identified as Rezaul Karim Bagha, remains at large, police said.

Police said efforts were continuing to arrest the fugitive suspect and recover other evidence allegedly connected with the murder.
