Mongla, Sept 14 (V7N) — The Mongla municipal unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has launched a mosquito-control campaign, along with public awareness activities and leaflet distribution, to help prevent the spread of dengue in Mongla.
The campaign began on Sunday morning in the Signal Tower area of Ward No. 9 of Mongla Municipality. Mohammad Zulfikar Ali, president of the Mongla municipal BNP and a former mayor, inaugurated the campaign by personally spraying mosquito-control chemicals and distributing awareness leaflets among local residents.
Local BNP leaders Golam Nur Jony, Bablu Bhuiyan, Mahbubur Rahman Tutul, Abdul Kader, Abdul Salam Bepari and Kazi Faruk were also present during the campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Zulfikar Ali said the campaign had been launched in accordance with instructions from BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to strengthen dengue prevention efforts.
“On the first day, we are conducting mosquito-control activities, raising public awareness and distributing leaflets in Ward No. 9 of the municipality. The campaign will gradually be extended to all wards,” he said.
He added that BNP leaders in each ward had been instructed to take part in dengue-prevention activities and work to raise awareness among residents.
Zulfikar Ali said four people had died of dengue in the area so far and stressed the need for greater public awareness and vigilance to prevent further deaths.
“We must remain aware and vigilant so that there are no more deaths from dengue,” he said.
The campaign focused on reducing mosquito breeding and encouraging residents to take preventive measures against dengue, a mosquito-borne viral disease.
