PABNA, May 10, (V7N)– Strong demands were raised to stop illegal soil cutting, curb brokers’ harassment at the General Hospital, halt unauthorized sand extraction from rivers, end excessive toll collection in markets, and take effective measures to ease traffic congestion in the city.

The issues came up during a three-hour meeting of the District Law and Order Committee held at the Pabna Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Sunday morning, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam.

Speakers, including Pabna-5 MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Pabna-2 MP AKM Selim Reza Habib, and Pabna-4 MP Abu Taleb Mondol, highlighted irregularities such as roadside markets, random vehicle parking, adulterated food, drug smuggling, illegal brick kilns, extortion, and cattle market over-taxation. They also noted that offenders often flee before law enforcement arrives, making legal action difficult.

The meeting resolved to take strict measures against these practices.

Other participants included Additional Police Superintendent Mashiur Rahman Mondol, NSI Joint Director Taufiq Iqbal, Pabna Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, General Secretary Zahurul Islam, poet Dr. Sohani Hossain, Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Shahidul Mannaf Kabir, Consumer Rights Assistant Director Mahmud Hasan Roni, Public Prosecutor Advocate Golam Sarwar Khan Jewel, BRTA Assistant Director Altaf Hossain, and leaders of local associations.

Government officials, civil society representatives, and press club members also attended, stressing the need for coordinated action to restore discipline and protect public welfare.
