Rajshahi, Aug 17 (V7N) — In a tragic incident in Bamanshikhra village, Paba Upazila, four family members were buried separately on Saturday afternoon following their deaths and post-mortem examinations.
Three members—including Minarul Islam and his son Mahin—were laid to rest together in Bamanshikhra, while the bodies of Monira Khatun and her daughter Mithila were interred in Tikapara. Minarul’s family had initially intended to bury all four victims together but tensions arose when Monira’s family demanded their children’s graves be placed by their mother, leading to a complex situation that was eventually resolved through compromise, explained Saeed Ali, Chairman of Parila Union Parishad.
On the previous night, two separate legal cases were filed at Motihar police station. Minarul’s father, Rostam Ali, filed an ‘unnatural death’ (UD) case. Meanwhile, Monira’s mother, Shiuli Begum, lodged a murder case against unidentified attackers, accusing them of strangulating her two grandchildren and daughter.
Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek of Motihar Police Station reported that a note found near Minarul’s body suggested suicide, yet forensic evidence is pending: “Minarul wrote in a note, ‘We died due to debt and hunger.’ If forensic findings align with suicide, the murder case may be dropped; otherwise, further investigation will identify the true perpetrators.” Authorities are also examining whether external pressures, such as outstanding loans, contributed to the incident. The bodies were kept in the morgue overnight and released to families following post-mortem examinations.
Earlier on Friday morning, the four bodies were discovered in two rooms of the house. Minarul’s body was hanging by a fan with a noose around his neck, while Mahin lay beside him. In an adjacent room were Monira and Mithila.
Shiuli Begum had initially hesitated to file a case, but investigators persuaded her to do so to ensure legal proceedings. The police confirmed that investigation and forensic analysis are ongoing to determine the exact nature of the deaths.
