Rajshahi, June 17 (V7N) – A tense confrontation involving two groups erupted at the Shiroil Dhaka Bus Terminal area in Rajshahi on Monday, stemming from a dispute over a parked delivery van. The incident, which included a chase and counter-chase, lasted from approximately 12:45 PM to 1:40 PM before police intervened to bring the situation under control.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the altercation began when Md. Sajal (33), a resident of the Panchabat area and a presidential candidate for Ward No. 24 Jubo Dal, parked his delivery van on the roadside while delivering goods to a shop. An argument ensued with an auto driver. The dispute escalated when Sajal reportedly slapped the auto driver. Md. Roni (32), a mango trader who was nearby, intervened, leading to a physical altercation between him and Sajal.

The situation quickly escalated into a full-blown clash. Approximately 40-45 individuals, including Saikat, the office secretary of Rajshahi Mahanagar Swechchhasebak Dal, who was with Sajal, and the former joint secretary of Mahanagar Chhatra Dal, gathered at the scene armed with local weapons. On the opposing side, 25-30 people led by Roni took a counter-position.

A chase, counter-chase, and scuffle ensued between the two factions, causing extreme tension throughout the terminal area. Upon receiving reports of the disturbance, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostaq Ahmed of Boalia Model Police Station, along with his accompanying force and the City Patrolling CRT team, swiftly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the volatile situation under control.

OC Mostaq Ahmed confirmed the incident, stating, "The clash started over a trivial incident. However, the police quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The situation is normal now. Legal action will be taken after the investigation."

Following the incident, tension remained in the area, and police presence has been reinforced in the terminal vicinity to prevent further unrest.
