Mongla, Bagerhat, May 08 (V7N) – The Forest Department has seized 42 kilograms of deer meat from the Hula Bharani canal in the Sundarbans. During the operation, four poachers managed to evade capture. A case has been registered against the fleeing individuals under the Forest Act.
Surjit Chowdhury, the Dhangmari Station Officer of the Chandpai Range in the East Sundarbans Division, reported that acting on a tip-off, forest guards conducted a raid on the Hula Bharani canal in the early hours of Thursday night. Upon sensing the presence of the authorities, the poachers fled into the dense forest.
Following the escape, the forest guards searched the boat left behind by the poachers and discovered 42 kilograms of deer meat. The poachers' boat was also confiscated. A case has been filed against the escaped poachers under the Forest Act in connection with this incident. The seized deer meat, which had been doused with kerosene oil, has been buried.
