Rangamati, Sept 17 (V7N) – A school guard was allegedly attacked by unidentified individuals in the premises of Naniarchar Government Model High School in Rangamati late Tuesday night.

The incident reportedly took place around midnight on September 16.

The injured guard, Konok Kumar Chakma, son of the late Bhulok Chandra Chakma of Khamarpara area in Naniarchar upazila, sustained a serious injury to his forehead.

Local residents rescued him and took him to Naniarchar Upazila Health Complex. After receiving initial treatment, he was reportedly referred to Rangamati General Hospital for further medical care.

According to local residents, several people allegedly attacked Konok Kumar Chakma before fleeing the scene. Bloodstains were reportedly found inside and around the guard’s room on the school premises.

Police, however, said their preliminary inquiry pointed to a possible dispute among a group of people as a potential cause of the incident.

Naniarchar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam said police visited the scene after receiving information and found bloodstains inside and around the guard’s room. Police later went to the Naniarchar Upazila Health Complex and found Konok Kumar Chakma in an intoxicated condition, he said.

According to the preliminary police assessment, four to five people had been drinking together before the incident. A dispute may have subsequently developed among them, leading to the assault on Konok Kumar Chakma, police said.

The suspected individuals reportedly fled the scene following the incident.

Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and working to identify those involved.

Local residents have demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice promptly.
