Dhaka, Sept 17 (V7N) – A delegation from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Razzak, paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The eight-member delegation met the President on September 16, with RUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain also attending the meeting.
During the meeting, the RUET Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on the university’s academic activities, research initiatives, infrastructural development and overall academic progress. The delegation also discussed matters related to the continued development of the university’s educational and research capabilities.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stressed the importance of improving the quality of education and research at RUET and strengthening its capacity to compete at the international level.
He said engineering and technology universities have a vital role to play in developing skilled, innovative and technology-oriented human resources capable of meeting the challenges of the modern world.
The President also emphasized the importance of engineering and technology universities in advancing Bangladesh’s technological and economic development.
Among those present at the meeting were Ashraf Uddin, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Defence and member of Parliament from Narsingdi-5; RUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain; Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam; Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman; Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Humanities Professor Dr. Abdul Kader Jilani; Acting Registrar Arif Ahmed Chowdhury; Director of the Office of Student Welfare Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam Sarkar; and Director of the Planning and Development Division Professor Dr. H. M. Russell.
Relevant secretaries from the President’s Office were also present.
The meeting came ahead of RUET’s upcoming convocation, for which the university had announced that its Vice-Chancellor and other senior officials would travel to Dhaka to meet the President.
