Bagerhat, Oct 5 (V7N) — A businessman was brutally attacked and killed by assailants in Morelganj upazila late Saturday evening, while his elder brother sustained serious injuries.

The incident took place around 8:00 p.m. in Dhepuarpur village of Chingrakhali Union. The deceased, Kalam Khan (48), was the son of Wazed Ali Khan, also known as Kalu Khan. His elder brother, Lutfor Rahman Khan (52), was critically injured in the attack and admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to Kalam Khan’s son, Rabbi Khan, the victims were having tea at the shop of Wazed Ali Khan when a group of local assailants attacked them with hammers and iron rods. The attackers severely beat and mutilated Kalam Khan and his uncle before leaving them injured by the roadside. Passersby discovered the victims and alerted authorities. By 10:00 p.m., both were taken to Morelganj Hospital, where doctors declared Kalam Khan dead on arrival.

Rabbi Khan claimed that the attack was premeditated and linked to a longstanding land dispute. Kalam Khan served as the president of the Union Volunteer League and is survived by his wife, Fahima Begum, and five sons. According to his uncle, Nuruzzaman Khan Dulal, the assailants belong to the same extended family.

Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Motlubur Rahman confirmed the incident. He stated that Kalam Khan’s body has been sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination and that police teams are actively working at the scene to apprehend the perpetrators. Legal proceedings are underway, and multiple police units remain deployed in the area to investigate.
