Pabna, August 4 (V7N) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-12) has arrested Lokman Hossain, 35, the prime accused in a violent attack on a branch of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna. He was detained on Saturday afternoon from the Phailjana area.
According to a press release issued by RAB-12 on Sunday morning, Lokman is a resident of Phailjana village and the son of Abdus Sattar. He serves as the elected member of Ward 3 in the Phailjana Union Council and was recently the convener of the local unit of the Jubo Dal, the Jubo Dal of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On Friday night, he was expelled from the party by the district Jubo Dal in response to the incident.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Enamul Haque, acting commander of RAB-12 (CPC-2 Pabna), said the incident occurred on July 31 when Lokman, angered by a loan default lawsuit, stormed into the Phailjana branch of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank along with several accomplices. The attackers vandalized bank property and physically assaulted multiple officials, including branch manager Shamsuzzaman Noyon and senior staff.
The bank had filed a legal case against Lokman Hossain for failing to repay a loan of Tk 3 lakh. Following the legal notice, he allegedly retaliated with violence. After the attack, a case was filed by the branch manager with the Chatmohar police, registered as case number 15.
Acting on intelligence, a RAB team conducted a raid around 6:00 PM on Saturday and arrested Lokman in the Phailjana area. He has since been handed over to Chatmohar Police Station for legal processing.
Chatmohar Police Officer-in-Charge Manjurul Alam confirmed that Lokman was presented in court on Sunday morning and has been sent to jail custody pending further investigation.
