Madaripur, July 30 (V7N) — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched a formal investigation into allegations of corruption and embezzlement in the land acquisition process for the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project in Shibchar, Madaripur.
 
The ACC’s Integrated District Office in Madaripur has initiated inquiries against 13 individuals, including former Deputy Commissioners of Madaripur, Md. Wahidul Islam and Dr. Rahima Khatun, along with former Additional Deputy Commissioners Syed Faruq Ahmad and Jhoton Chandra.
 
On Tuesday, official notices were sent from the ACC Madaripur office to the current Deputy Commissioner’s office, the two former Deputy Commissioners, and other individuals under investigation.
 
According to reliable sources, the investigation stems from reports of financial irregularities and misuse of power during the land acquisition phase of the railway project. In response, a dedicated investigation team has been formed under the leadership of Akhtaruzzaman, Assistant Director of the ACC's Madaripur office. He will be assisted by fellow Assistant Director Md. Saidur Rahman Opu.
 
The inquiry is being conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Rule 8 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules, 2007.
 
The individuals under scrutiny include:
 
Md. Wahidul Islam, former Deputy Commissioner, Madaripur, Dr. Rahima Khatun, former Deputy Commissioner, Madaripur, Syed Faruq Ahmad, former Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jhoton Chandra, former Additional Deputy Commissioner, Md. Saifuddin Gias, former Land Acquisition Officer, Madaripur, Mohammad Suman Shibli, Pramatha Ranjan Ghatak Al Mamun, Md. Nazmul Haque Suman, Md. Nasir Uddin, acting Kanungo, DC Office, Madaripur, Md. Abul Hossain, and Rezaul Haque.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has demanded detailed documentation and responses from the accused parties to aid in the investigation. The Commission has also confirmed that further legal steps will follow based on the outcome of the inquiry report.
 
Akhtaruzzaman, Assistant Director and head of the investigation team, has officially confirmed the development.
