Rangamati, July 28 (V7N) — A woman was discovered dead under mysterious conditions at the Golden Hill residential hotel in Rangamati’s Reserve Bazar on Sunday at approximately 2:30 AM. The Kotwali Police Station recovered her body from the hotel owned by three brothers linked to the district Awami League leadership.

The woman, found partially lying on a bed and dressed in jeans and a shirt, was registered under the name "Mrs. Munna Sarkar" from Dhanmondi, but family members identified her as Munna Akhter from Pahartoli, Chattogram. Guests Abdul Qader and Sadiya Akhter (his daughter), as well as the woman’s mother, Mumtaz Begum, confirmed her identity and relationship after traveling to Rangamati.

The hotel’s manager and director, Qutub Uddin, was taken into police custody. He acknowledged renting room No. 5 to the woman on July 26. He claimed to have discovered her hanging from a ceiling fan around 9:30 PM and removed her to a bed before notifying the hotel owners. However, he delayed informing police until around 1:30 AM—raising suspicion among law enforcement and locals.

During searches at the Golden Hill Hotel following the incident, one customer was arrested from room 12 along with a woman identified as a prostitute. Qutub Uddin admitted that he supplied sex workers to guests in exchange for money, claiming a broker from the old bus terminal provided them.

Additional allegations state the hotel has operated as a brothel for some time, despite being monitored by market CCTV. Neighbors report that upon sensing police presence, staff often removed sex workers from view, guided by Qutub Uddin’s instructions to avoid detection.

Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Mohammad Sahed Uddin confirmed that the police are conducting a thorough investigation, including an autopsy. Legal action is underway, and the findings will determine whether additional arrests will follow.
