Dhaka, July 28 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has reiterated that the BNP is not dependent on any foreign country, asserting that no matter how much pressure is applied, the party cannot be weakened or trapped.
He made the remarks on Monday morning while inaugurating a graffiti painting program organized by the Jubo Dal in six key locations across Dhaka, marking the anniversary of the July Uprising, Mourning, and Victory. The event was held at Shahbagh.
Fakhrul paid tribute to those who died in the movement, stating, “Seventy-nine leaders and activists of the Jubo Dal alone sacrificed their lives in the July Uprising.” He emphasized that the movement was not limited to a few individuals, but involved people of all ages and walks of life.
Addressing ongoing political developments, Fakhrul criticized the government's handling of legal proceedings against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claiming that the BNP is cooperating in necessary reforms to restore democratic integrity.
He also expressed strong disapproval over the recent arrests of five leaders from the Anti-Discrimination Movement, who were accused of extortion. “Even under severe persecution by the DB office, no BNP leader or activist ever surrendered or signed any bond,” he asserted.
Fakhrul's comments come amid escalating political tensions surrounding reform demands, student protests, and the July Uprising anniversary, which the BNP has declared as a historic milestone in Bangladesh’s fight for democracy.
