Dhaka, Sep 21 (V7N)- Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain has said the success of the current government depends largely on the development of the health sector.
He made the remarks on Monday (September 21) while speaking at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital in Mohakhali, Dhaka.
The minister said the government is giving the highest priority to healthcare and increasing allocations for hospitals that treat large numbers of patients from different parts of the country.
Speaking about kidney dialysis services, Sakhawat Hossain said the government plans to provide 10 kidney dialysis machines to every upazila within the next two years.
He said the initiative is aimed at expanding access to dialysis services and reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.
The health minister also said various initiatives have been taken to improve the professional skills of physicians across the country.
He noted that the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital was inaugurated by then-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in 2005.
According to the minister, ICU services at the hospital have now been expanded after 21 years, with 40 new ICU beds added to strengthen critical-care capacity.
