Dhaka, Jun 28 (V7N) – The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2026 has begun simultaneously across Bangladesh with the aim of preventing childhood blindness and malnutrition by providing Vitamin A capsules to millions of children.
The campaign officially started at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and will continue until 4:00 p.m., according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Under the nationwide programme, the government aims to administer Vitamin A capsules to children aged between 6 and 59 months. A total of 24,036,222 children are expected to benefit from the campaign.
To ensure maximum coverage, Vitamin A capsules are being distributed through approximately 120,000 permanent immunization centres, as well as at bus terminals, ferry terminals and other designated service points across the country.
Following the one-day campaign, health authorities will conduct a four-day child-to-child search programme in remote areas of 58 upazilas across 12 districts to identify children who were unable to receive the capsules during the main campaign.
Health officials said the initiative is a key component of the government's child nutrition programme, aimed at strengthening immunity, preventing vitamin A deficiency and reducing the risk of childhood blindness among young children nationwide.
