Narayanganj, Jun 25 (V7N)- The construction of the inter-district bus terminal at Kanchpur in Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj, considered a key gateway to Dhaka, will be completed within the next six months, State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid said.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (June 24) after inspecting the under-construction Kanchpur Inter-District Bus Terminal.

The State Minister said that a portion of the operations currently handled by the Dhaka Sayedabad Bus Terminal will be shifted to Kanchpur. The move is expected to ease traffic congestion in the capital and improve passenger services.

He stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has undertaken various coordinated initiatives to transform Dhaka into a modern and congestion-free city. As part of the plan, efforts are underway to relocate some transport-related activities to Keraniganj and Kanchpur in order to reduce pressure on the Jatrabari and Sayedabad bus terminals.

According to the minister, work on the Kanchpur terminal is progressing rapidly and the facility is expected to become fully operational within six months. Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in and around the capital.

Criticizing the previous government, he said that four bus terminals in Dhaka had been used as depots without proper planning, resulting in prolonged traffic suffering for commuters.

He added that the current government has taken a number of measures to restore discipline in road transportation management. As part of those efforts, plans are underway to gradually introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic management systems at major signal points across the capital.

The minister expressed optimism that the introduction of advanced traffic management technology would help establish full order and efficiency on Dhaka’s roads.
