Khagrachari, Apr 10 (V7N)- A vibrant festive atmosphere has taken hold across the hill districts as communities prepare to celebrate the Bengali New Year and traditional indigenous festivals. From plains to পাহাড়, the spirit of celebration is spreading nationwide, with the hills now buzzing with cultural activities.
In Khagrachari, members of the Marma community have already begun their traditional Sangrai festival celebrations with the inauguration of the indigenous games ‘Aladi’ and ‘Dho’. The event was formally inaugurated on Friday morning at Battala in the Pankhaiya Para area by Deputy Commissioner Anwar Sadat, in the presence of local festival committee leaders.
Following the inauguration, the traditional games began with enthusiastic participation from people of all ages—men and women alike. As part of the rituals, elders of the Marma community also performed ceremonial bathing, marking a key cultural tradition of the festival.
The broader festivities—Biju (Chakma), Sangrai (Marma), and Baisu (Tripura)—will officially begin on April 12. The celebrations will start with the Chakma community floating flowers in rivers, symbolizing peace and renewal.
During this period, the hills come alive with vibrant colors, traditional attire, music, and rituals, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Chakma, Marma, and Tripura communities.
Meanwhile, the local administration has taken strict security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations across the region.
