Dhaka, Feb 3 (V7N) — The glorious night of Laylatul Barat, also known as Shab-e-Barat, is being observed today, Tuesday, across the country with due religious solemnity.

The night of the 14th of Shaban in the Hijri calendar is regarded by devout Muslims as the night of fortune and liberation. On this auspicious night, believers engage in voluntary prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran, zikr, and other acts of worship, seeking the mercy and forgiveness of Almighty Allah.

Muslims pray for forgiveness of past sins and injustices and seek blessings for their future lives. According to Islamic belief, human fate, sustenance, and deeds for the coming year are decreed on this night, making it a special occasion for repentance and spiritual renewal.

Across Bangladesh, as in other Muslim countries, worshippers are spending the night in nafl prayers, milad mahfils, Quran recitation, and remembrance of Allah. Many are also visiting the graves of deceased relatives, offering prayers for their departed souls.

Meanwhile, Wednesday (February 4) has been declared a government holiday on the occasion of holy Shab-e-Barat. All government offices, courts, and educational institutions will remain closed.

Shab-e-Barat also serves as a spiritual reminder of the approaching holy month of Ramadan, which follows the month of Shaban. As a result, many Muslims begin preparations for Ramadan from this night.
