Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N) – The amount of rumors surrounding this year’s Sharadiya Durga Puja has been significantly lower than in previous years, said Major General Abdul Qayyum Mollah, Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC).

He made the remarks at a press conference on the Sharadi Suraksha app at the NTMC headquarters in Tejgaon on Tuesday afternoon.

“A party is trying to destabilize the country, whether from inside or outside. But fact-checking of every incident linked to rumors is being done,” said the NTMC chief.

He added that all puja mandaps have been brought under security coverage, while monitoring of Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms is underway to prevent the spread of rumors.

“Those attempting to spread falsehoods around Durga Puja are failing this time. Everyone knows who wants to destabilize the country,” Abdul Qayyum Mollah said, adding that surveillance will remain tight around both Durga Puja celebrations and the upcoming national elections.
