Dhaka, Jul 23 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that President Md. Shahabuddin has the constitutional right to resign if he wishes to do so due to health issues or any other reason. However, he emphasized that he has no information regarding any possible resignation by the President.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday (July 23) while responding to questions from journalists after a meeting on the development of Cox’s Bazar held at the Ministry of Finance.
“The government has not made any statement regarding the President’s resignation. I have only heard the same rumors and reports that have appeared in the media,” Salahuddin Ahmed said.
He noted that the President had recently traveled abroad for medical treatment and said that seeking treatment is a normal matter if he is unwell. However, he added that he had no knowledge of the alleged phone conversation that has been the subject of recent speculation.
When asked whether the President had informed the government about his health condition or any intention to resign, the Home Minister replied, “This is not a matter that needs to be communicated to the government. If the President wishes to resign due to health reasons or any other cause, he has the opportunity to do so. However, no official communication has been made in this regard.”
He further stated that, according to the Constitution, if the President decides to resign, he must submit his resignation letter to the Speaker of Parliament.
“That is the constitutional procedure. Beyond that, I have no additional information,” the minister added.
