Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has said that a newly published election-related survey shows strong public support for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), warning that disappointed quarters may attempt conspiracies to undermine the people’s mandate.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking on the third day of the discussion program titled “BNP’s Plan for Building the Nation” at the Krishibid Institution Auditorium in Khamarbari, Dhaka.
Referring to the survey released on Tuesday, conducted by a national daily, Nazrul Islam Khan said that 66 percent of respondents expressed support for BNP. He noted that the survey also indicates BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is leading in the race for the post of prime minister.
“Those who are frustrated and disappointed may resort to conspiracy. But the people have already made up their minds. No conspiracy can defeat the will of the people,” he said.
Criticizing the previous government, the BNP leader said that despite the construction of large infrastructure projects such as expressways, bridges and metro rail, the basic needs and aspirations of the people remained unmet. “On one side, a handful of people became millionaires, while on the other, millions were pushed below the poverty line. This cannot be called development,” he added.
He said the ongoing program aims to explain BNP’s vision of inclusive development and how the party plans to fulfill the people’s expectations if given the opportunity to govern.
Speaking at the same event, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that if BNP comes to power, it will declare a “war on corruption.”
The day-long program is scheduled to conclude with a speech from BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who will address the event as the chief guest in the afternoon.
