Barisal, Dec 08 (V7N) – Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, General Secretary of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), was allegedly harassed by leaders and activists of the BNP while attending the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Mirganj Bridge in Babuganj upazila of Barisal on Sunday afternoon.
According to local sources, Barrister Fuad was present at the inauguration ceremony of the bridge over the Arial Khan River when a group began chanting slogans such as “fake, fake,” creating a tense situation. Sensing the escalation, Fuad quickly left the venue in a vehicle to avoid further confrontation.
Speaking to the media, Asaduzzaman Fuad claimed that certain individuals attempted to disrupt the inauguration program, similar to incidents that allegedly occurred earlier in Muladi. He further alleged that a Chinese company awarded the contract for the bridge construction was subjected to extortion demands. “If the bridge is built, the local area will benefit from development,” he added, though he did not name any specific district or upazila officials.
However, the Babuganj Upazila Chhatra Dal rejected the allegations, denying any involvement in harassment or disruption at the event.
Meanwhile, National Citizens Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara expressed concern over the incident in a post from her verified social media account. She wrote, “Politics in this country should be conducted through logic and reason, not force.”
