Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N) — BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia remains in critical condition as she undergoes treatment at a hospital, according to the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

In a verified Facebook post today, Tarique Rahman said that although he deeply wishes to be by his mother’s side during this crisis, the decision to return home is not solely in his control due to prevailing circumstances.

Tarique Rahman wrote that Khaleda Zia’s condition is extremely serious, and citizens from all walks of life, irrespective of political affiliation, have continued to pray for her recovery. He also mentioned that the Chief Adviser expressed commitment to providing all possible medical support for her treatment.

He added that local and foreign medical specialists are working with utmost dedication, and several friendly nations have expressed willingness to extend further advanced medical assistance if needed.

“On behalf of the Zia family, I express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their prayers and love for Begum Khaleda Zia,” he wrote, urging the nation to continue praying for her speedy recovery.

Regarding his potential return to the country, Tarique Rahman said, “Like any child, I strongly wish to feel my mother’s affection during such a critical time. But my ability to decide independently is limited. We remain hopeful that the political circumstances will soon align to make my return possible.”

Begum Khaleda Zia, nearly 80 years old and suffering from multiple chronic ailments, was admitted to the hospital’s CCU on November 23 with lung infection and heart complications. She is currently under continuous monitoring by a medical board comprising local and foreign specialists.

Her condition remains a matter of deep concern for the nation, with prayers and well-wishes continuing to pour in.
