Jakarta, Sept 28 (V7N) – Bangladesh trailed Singapore 1-0 at halftime in their crucial Group A match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, today.
Singapore dominated the opening half, taking five shots, four of them on target, while Bangladesh failed to register a single attempt. Singapore took the lead in the 35th minute when Nur Abdullah broke down the left flank and delivered a cross for Harhys Stewart, who headed the ball past Bangladesh goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon.
Coach Thomas Dooley made four changes to today's starting XI, bringing back experienced midfielder and captain Jamal Bhuyan. Bangladesh XI: Mehedi Hasan Srabon (GK), Jamal Bhuyan (captain), Sheikh Morsalin, Hamza Choudhury, Suki Itofusa, Rakib Hossain, Zidan Yousuf, Tariq Kazi, Zayyan Ahmed, Saad Uddin and Shamit Shome.
Earlier, Bangladesh opened their FIFA ASEAN Cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Malaysia. The team will be looking to bounce back in the second half against Singapore to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
