Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that while preparations are underway for forming a government accountable to the people, some political parties are exploiting the interim government’s weaknesses to oppose the public’s aspirations. He urged the “weak” government to face the people in February without intimidation.
Tarique made the remarks during a discussion on Revolution and Solidarity Day at the China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday.
He warned that the country’s economic situation is becoming increasingly fragile, and emphasized that an elected government formed with the support of the people is essential to revive the economy. Tarique also alleged that some political parties are attempting to obstruct the election process by imposing various conditions, providing opportunities for fugitive leaders to rehabilitate themselves.
At the event, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the ongoing crisis as unnecessary and alleged that it was created to hinder democracy and destabilize the nation’s future.
