Dhaka, Nov 01 (V7N)- BNP Standing Committee Member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said that the country does not need the July Charter, but rather a parliament that will implement democracy.
He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion meeting of the Muktijoddha Dal held at the National Press Club on Saturday.
Accusing the interim government of trying to erase the memory of the Liberation War, Major Hafiz said, “This government does not mention the Liberation War anywhere. An attempt is being made to belittle the 1971 struggle. Our country gained independence through immense sacrifice and hardship. No other movement can compare to this. Bangladesh was born through the Liberation War.”
He also warned that religious-based political parties are conspiring around the upcoming elections for power. “If any attempt is made to undermine the spirit of the Liberation War, it will be firmly resisted,” the senior BNP leader added.
