Dhaka, Oct 15 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqul Rahman announced that each family of the workers killed in the Mirpur Rupnagar Shialbari garment factory and chemical warehouse fire will receive Tk 1 lakh. He made the announcement on the night of October 14, around 10:40 pm, at the site of the incident.
Dr. Rahman stated that many victims were trapped inside due to sudden fire and smoke, and most were poor, working to sustain their families. He emphasized that while the pain of losing a family member cannot be fully understood by others, the party will try to provide support.
He urged the government to stand by the families of the deceased with appropriate financial assistance and called for identifying any negligence behind the incident to take legal action. Dr. Rahman confirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami would ensure financial support for the victims’ families, starting with Tk 1 lakh per family.
The fire broke out at the garment printing factory and chemical warehouse in Rupnagar around 11:40 am. The first unit of the Fire Service arrived at 11:56 am, followed by 12 additional units. The incident has so far resulted in 16 deaths. Three victims—Md. Suruj (30), Md. Mamun (35), and Sohel—are receiving treatment at the National Burn Institute.
