Dhaka, Oct 07 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman paid a courtesy call on United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwen Lewis at his office in Bashundhara, Dhaka, on Tuesday morning.

According to Jamaat’s Publicity Department, the meeting, held at around 9 am, took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Huma Khan, Human Rights Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator, accompanied Gwen Lewis during the meeting.

Discussions covered a wide range of issues, including Bangladesh’s current human rights and political situation, the Rohingya crisis, and the upcoming national elections.

The Jamaat Ameer emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections and sought UN cooperation and technical assistance to ensure they are held in a free, fair, and acceptable manner.

He also expressed hope for the continued support of the United Nations in advancing women’s rights, improving workplace skills, and promoting Bangladesh’s overall development.

Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Supreme Court lawyer Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem were also present at the meeting.
