Dhaka, Aug 29 (V7N) – The Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party has demanded that the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections be held under the framework of the July Charter, even if that requires postponing the election date.
The party’s General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad made the remarks at a press conference at the party office on Friday.
Fuad said that while the Election Commission (EC) has taken an initiative to hold “responsible elections,” doubts remain about its ability to conduct them properly in the current situation. “Neither the Election Commission nor the officials have prior experience in holding fair elections. Without fixing these issues, the election may go down in history as fair but one-sided,” he warned.
The AB Party leader also criticized the EC for not considering lowering the voting age, saying, “Those who will be 17 on election day should be given the opportunity to vote.”
On the announcement of the election roadmap, Fuad noted that it does not address the nomination process of political parties, nor does it provide solutions to reduce excessive election spending. “A lot of money is spent on campaign materials. If the EC provided simple posters, it would reduce costs and help protect the environment,” he suggested.
