Dhaka, July 18, (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that the responsibility will fall on the interim government and the consensus commission if the proposed July Charter is not signed within this month.

He made the remarks while addressing a silent pre-march rally organized by Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP in memory of the martyrs of the July 24 mass uprising. The event took place in the capital on Friday afternoon.

Salahuddin accused those advocating for local government elections and proportional representation (PR) methods of being “dishonest.” He asserted that the current government lacks the mandate to hold such elections and reiterated BNP’s position that the interim government should function as a neutral caretaker administration.

The BNP leader further alleged that conspiracies are being orchestrated to divide the democratic forces in the country. He called on the people to uphold national unity in the face of what he described as “fascist forces.”

Following the rally, a silent procession began from Pallabi in Mirpur and paraded through various nearby roads.
