Jamaat Calls for Electoral Reforms

In his keynote address, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the urgent need for fundamental electoral reforms to ensure a free and fair election process. He stated, “We have presented our demands for reforms, and we will not rest until those reforms are achieved. Only then can we secure a truly fair election, In Shaa Allah.”

He accused the ruling government of engaging in what he described as “election engineering” and warned against allowing a repeat of “fascist-style elections” as allegedly conducted under previous administrations. Dr. Rahman criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, claiming authoritarian control over state institutions and reiterated that mass mobilization and public resistance had historically overthrown such regimes.

Call Against Electoral Manipulation and Violence

Dr. Rahman further stated that Jamaat would resist any use of administrative manipulation, muscle power, or illicit finances during the elections. “We will not allow any thuggery in polling stations. The people who have already paid a high price for change will not accept the return of fascism,” he said.

Referring to recent political violence and the historical injustice towards religious minorities, Dr. Rahman said, “Those who destroyed minority communities’ properties are the ones pretending to be their saviors today. This hypocrisy must end.”

Massive Turnout at Rally After 17 Years

The rally, organized jointly by Rangpur Metropolitan and District Jamaat units, was held at Rangpur Zilla School ground. Though scheduled for 3:00 PM, the program started shortly after Jumu'ah prayers due to an early turnout. The venue, including adjacent roads, was packed with thousands of party activists and supporters, signaling Jamaat’s attempt at political resurgence in the northern region.

Notable Jamaat leaders including central executive council member ATM Azharul Islam, Nayeb-e-Ameer Prof. Mujibur Rahman, Secretary General Prof. Mia Golam Porwar, Islami Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam, and others also addressed the gathering.

The event concluded with a strong pledge to continue Jamaat’s movement against what they term “fascism” and their commitment to participate in the upcoming national polls through all 33 constituencies of the Rangpur Division.
