Dhaka, May 31 (V7N) – The central committee of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing) has issued an official clarification putting an end to widespread rumors regarding the dismissal of its central president, Rakibul Islam Rakib.
In a circular released on Friday evening (May 30), Chhatra Dal’s Office Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam stated that Rakibul Islam Rakib is currently resting on doctors’ advice due to illness, which is why he has been absent from party activities over the past two days. The statement confirmed that Rakib will resume participation in party programs starting Sunday (June 1).
The announcement explicitly warned all levels of Chhatra Dal leaders and activists against engaging in or spreading rumors, and it called for prayers for Rakib’s quick recovery.
This clarification comes amid rising speculation that Rakib had been sidelined and that acting responsibilities were handed over to Senior Vice-President Abu Ahsan Mohammad Afsan Yahia, following internal dissatisfaction.
Background to the Rumors
The speculation intensified after a reported scuffle among Chhatra Dal members at the ‘Youth Rally’ held in Dhaka last Wednesday, where President Rakib was present. Allegations surfaced that he failed to manage the situation, sparking criticism and leading to unverified claims that he had been relieved of his duties.
However, Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir dismissed these claims earlier, stating:
“Rakib Bhai is ill. The news of his removal is completely false. He is still in charge, and nothing has changed.”
The latest official notice from the central office appears to have put the matter to rest, reinforcing that Rakib remains in his position as President and that his absence was purely for medical reasons.
