Rajshahi, MAY 27 (V7N) – A faction of BNP leaders and activists in Rajshahi today, Monday, held a human chain program demanding the reorganization of Rajshahi city, police station, and ward BNP committees, calling for the inclusion of "tested and resigned" leaders and activists while excluding alleged Awami League supporters. The protest, organized under the banner of "BNP, its organs and associate organizations, Rajshahi," took place at 11 AM at Sahebbazar Zero Point in the city.

Banners at the human chain prominently featured pictures of Metropolitan BNP convener Ershad Ali Isha alongside AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, an Awami League presidium member and former city mayor, at various events. Another banner displayed a picture of City BNP member secretary Mamun-or-Rashid, with text alleging that Metropolitan Awami League general secretary Dablu Sarkar, currently in prison, communicates with him via mobile phone.

During the rally held as part of the human chain, speakers alleged that the current Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP committee is composed of Awami League supporters and operates as a "pocket committee" implementing the Awami League's agenda. They pointed out that while former leaders of Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP faced repeated cases during the Awami League regime, no cases have been filed against any member of the current committee. They accused the current committee of acting as "agents of Awami League," stating that "leaders who are BNP during the day and Awami League at night cannot lead BNP." They further claimed that individuals close to the Awami League have been placed in police station and ward committees, marginalizing genuine party workers.

Speakers also accused the "illegal and incompetent committee" of occupying the British Council office, declaring it as the party office for district and metropolitan BNP, and occupying the Rajshahi Shiroil bus stand to establish a "reign of terror." They specifically alleged that this committee attacked and set fire to the house of Ruhul Amin Bablu, joint convener of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Jubo Dal, and demanded the arrest of those involved in the attack.

Abdus Salam, a member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council (in charge of the Rajshahi division's organizational duties), was reportedly labeled as a "broker" during the human chain program.

The speakers urged the central committee to immediately abolish the Rajshahi metropolitan, police station, and ward committees. They issued a warning that if the metropolitan committee is not dissolved within seven days, a "BNP protection committee" would be formed in Rajshahi, and strict programs would be announced through that committee.

Among those present at the human chain program were Saidur Rahman Pintu, former president of Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP's Boalia Thana (East); Rokhsana Begum Tuktuki, organizing secretary of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, Rajshahi division; Abul Kalam Azad Sweet, former president of Rajshahi Metropolitan Jubo Dal; Rabiul Alam Milu, former general secretary of Boalia Thana (East) BNP; Abdul Matin, former general secretary of Shah Makhdum Thana BNP; and Ansar Ali, former president of Motihar Thana BNP.
