DHAKA, May 22 (V7N) – BNP leader Ishraq Hossain has instructed his activists to continue their agitation until Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan resign from the advisory council of the interim government. This directive was issued by Hossain in a status update posted on his verified Facebook page at 1:02 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

In his Facebook post, Ishraq Hossain wrote, "I will tell the protesting brothers that donkeys can be tamed with these radishes, not us. The struggle will continue until the news of the resignation of the two student representative advisors comes. They will not leave the streets, they will have to be expanded further."

This call for continued protest comes despite a High Court bench of Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury dismissing a writ petition filed by Ishraq Hossain seeking an order not to administer the oath to him as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The High Court's decision, also delivered on Thursday, effectively removes any legal obstacle to Ishraq Hossain taking the DSCC mayoral oath.

Ishraq Hossain's supporters had been protesting for several days, demanding his swearing-in as DSCC mayor. While many anticipated that the High Court's order would lead to the cessation of protests, his workers and supporters, despite expressing joy at the court's decision, announced their intent to remain on the streets until advisors Asif Mahmud and Mahfuz Alam resign. Shortly after this announcement, Ishraq Hossain issued his new instructions via Facebook.

Yesterday, his supporters had protested in the Kakrail area, also demanding his swearing-in as mayor. During a speech at that protest, the BNP leader had already called for the resignation of Asif Mahmud and Mahfuz Alam.
