Gazipur, Aug 09 (V7N) – Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner DIG Dr. Md. Nazmul Karim Khan has publicly apologized for the failure to ensure security that led to the murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin. Speaking at a press conference at the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Saturday morning, he assured that a charge sheet would be submitted within 15 days.
The commissioner explained that Tuhin was killed by a professional criminal gang after he recorded a video capturing a kidnapping attempt. He also cited rising unemployment due to the closure of numerous factories in Gazipur during the July Movement as a contributing factor to the increase in local crime.
Last night, police raids across Gazipur led to the arrest of seven suspects directly involved in the murder, including Faisal alias Ketu Mizan, his wife Golap, Swadhin, Al Amin, Hasan, Shahjalal, and Sumon.
In a related statement at the press conference, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials revealed that Swadhin, arrested from the Shibbari area, confessed during initial interrogation to his role in Tuhin’s brutal killing. RAB confirmed that the journalist was hacked to death after witnessing the robbery carried out by the organized criminal gang.
The police are continuing investigations into the case.
