DHAKA, Feb 10, (V7N) – Education Adviser Professor Dr C R Abrar today expressed his deep gratitude to the committee formed for policy reforms in the education sector and the officials concerned who supported the process.

“The committee has successfully completed a complex and multidimensional task within a very short period of just three months,” he said while addressing a dissemination seminar marking the submission of the final report of the Consultation Committee at the ministry conference room here.

Professor Dr C R Abrar attended the seminar as the chief guest, while Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Ms Rahima Parvin chaired the event.

He said that initially there had been little expectation that such an extensive task could be completed within the given timeframe, describing the achievement as a matter of special joy and pride.

Despite heavy administrative workloads, the adviser noted, the committee demonstrated a deep understanding of the core challenges facing the education sector and ensured engagement with stakeholders at various levels, starting from the grassroots.

He expressed hope that the issues discussed with the teaching community and other stakeholders would have a positive impact in real-world practice.

Dr Abrar said education is not merely a secondary sector but a critically important foundation for nation-building. The goal of education, he added, should not be limited to making future generations employable, but also to nurturing individuals with human values, empathy, tolerance, ethical integrity and a liberal outlook.

In a globally competitive and technology-driven world, he said, there is no alternative to quality education.

Based on the discussions at the seminar, the document will be further enriched and refined, Dr Abrar said, adding that once final approval is received from stakeholders, it will be published online. Provisions will also be made to allow stakeholders to submit feedback and proposals within a specified timeframe.

The adviser further expressed hope that future governments and policymakers would develop a strong legal and institutional framework based on this roadmap.

Committee Convener and BRAC University Emeritus Professor Dr Manzur Ahmed said secondary education is not limited to academic learning alone but is also a crucial period for the physical and mental development of adolescents. Eliminating inequality and improving quality at this level are therefore essential, he said.

Other members of the Consultation Committee, including Prof Shahdo Islam, former chairman of the Chattogram Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board; Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Mahbub Morshed of the Institute of Education and Research, University of Dhaka; and Member-Secretary Tarfadar Md Akhtar Jamil, Joint Secretary of the Education Ministry, were also present.
