Dhaka, February 6 (V7N)- Abdur Rashid Jitu, Vice President of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), along with several other elected student leaders, has officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Friday afternoon.

Other JUCSU leaders who joined the student wing of the BNP include:

  • Shahid Salam Barkat Hall VP Maruf Hasan, GS Masud Rana Mintu, and AGS Ripon Mandal of AFM Kamaluddin Hall

  • Nawab Salimullah Hall VP Ibn Shihab

  • Al Beruni Hall VP Rifat Ahmed Shakil

  • AFM Kamaluddin Hall VP GM M Raihan Kabir

  • Rabindranath Tagore Hall VP Amit Banik

  • Nawab Faizunnesa Hall VP Bubli Ahmed

  • Begum Khaleda Zia Hall VP Farhana Bithi

  • Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall GS Shahriar Nazim Riyad

  • Shahid Rafiq Jabbar Hall GS Shariful Islam

The move comes after JUCSU and Hall Parliament elections were held on September 11, the first in 33 years. Voting took place from 9 am to 5 pm. In that election, the ‘Integrated Student Alliance’ panel, backed by Chhatra Shibir, won 20 of the 25 central parliament seats, while the Independent panel and Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Union won the remaining five posts.
