KUSHTIA, Feb 10, (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate for the Kushtia-3 (Sadar) constituency and well-known Islamic preacher Mufti Amir Hamza has been fined Tk 10,000 for violating the election code of conduct.

Kushtia Joint District and Sessions Judge Md Abdul Hye imposed the fine on Tuesday, slapping Tk 5,000 on two separate charges. In default of payment, the court ordered six days of simple imprisonment.

Advocate Kazi Toufiqul Islam, counsel for Mufti Amir Hamza, paid the fine on behalf of his client.

The case was filed following two allegations brought by Rashed Ahmed, a resident of Shantidanga village in Kushtia, accusing the Jamaat candidate of breaching election regulations.

During the hearing, the court found that a campaign banner displayed at Mojompur Gate did not include the name and address of the printing press or the date of printing, which is mandatory under the election code of conduct.
