Sylhet, Dec 12 (V7N) – The Election Commission of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has published the final list of candidates for the upcoming Central Student Union (SUCSU) elections. The list was made available on the official SUCSU election website on Thursday at 9:30 p.m.

A total of 97 students are contesting for various positions in the central student union. Four candidates are vying for the Vice President (VP) post, seven for General Secretary (GS), and four for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).

The Vice President candidates are Delwar Hasan Shishir from the English Department, Muhyi Sharad from Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering, Muminur Rashid Shuvo from the Physics Department, and Mostakim Billah from Computer Science and Engineering.

The General Secretary post sees competition from Muzahidul Islam (Civil Engineering), Faisal Hossain (Sociology), Maruf Billah (Chemistry), Junaid Ahmed (Social Work), Mohammad Saifur Rahman (Computer Science and Engineering), Palash Bokhtiar (Industrial and Production Engineering), and Junaid Hasan (Political Studies).

Assistant General Secretary candidates include Shakil Mahmud (Sociology), Ataharul Islam Rahin (Economics), Hafizur Islam, and Zahirul Islam (Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering).

Other positions feature multiple candidates: two for Sports Secretary, four for Assistant Sports Secretary, two for Literature and Yearbook Secretary, three for Cultural Secretary, two for Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary, three for Religion and Harmony Secretary, three for Social Service Secretary, four for Female Affairs Secretary, four for Health and Environment Secretary, five for Education-Research-Career Development Secretary, five for Information and Technology Secretary, four for International Secretary, four for Transport Secretary, four for Cafeteria and Canteen Secretary, five for Law and Human Rights Secretary, and 28 for general members.

The residence halls also have allocated candidates. Among male students, Shah Paran Hall has 17 candidates, Bijoy-24 Hall 18, and Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall 18. Female residence halls include Ayesha Siddika Hall with 10 candidates, Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall with 11, and Fatema Tuz-Zahra Hall with 10 candidates.

The SUCSU election comprises nine posts per hall, including VP, GS, AGS, Sports Secretary, Literature and Cultural Secretary, Social Service Secretary, and member positions. The candidate distribution reflects broad participation across departments and halls, highlighting a competitive election environment.

The final list sets the stage for students to actively campaign for their respective positions, with the election expected to shape the central student union leadership for the coming term.
