Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N) – Dhaka University has announced the closure of all classes and examinations until December 6 in response to the emergency situation following recent earthquakes. Students residing in campus halls have been instructed to vacate their accommodations by 5 pm on Sunday, November 23.
The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the university syndicate on Saturday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmad Khan and attended virtually by all syndicate members.
During the meeting, the syndicate emphasized the importance of students’ physical and mental safety in light of recent tremors. It was decided that all residential halls would remain empty until thorough inspections and risk assessments could be completed. University authorities requested hall principals to make the necessary arrangements for students to vacate by the stated deadline.
The meeting included expert opinions from BUET specialists, the Director of the Planning and Development Office, and the Chief Engineer. The recommendations highlighted the need for comprehensive post-earthquake inspections and any required repairs to ensure student safety.
University offices will continue to operate as usual while halls remain evacuated.
