Rajshahi, Oct 16 (V7N) — Voting for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), Hall Parliament, and Senate student representative elections is currently underway in a festive yet tightly secured environment.
To ensure law and order, five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the university campus and surrounding areas, confirmed Md. Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at the BGB Headquarters, on Thursday morning (October 15).
After a long 35-year hiatus, the much-anticipated RUCSU elections have begun, drawing enthusiastic participation from students. Voting will continue until 5 p.m.
This year, a total of 28,901 students are eligible to vote in the RUCSU central parliament election, including 11,305 female and 17,596 male voters.
There are 23 posts in the central RUCSU, contested by 247 candidates. In addition, elections are being held for 255 positions across 17 residential halls—with 601 candidates in the race. Among them, 460 candidates are from 11 male halls, and 141 candidates represent 6 female halls.
