Rajshahi, Sep 21 (V7N) – The Rajshahi University (RU) administration has suspended admissions under quota facilities following intense student protests against the reinstatement of the controversial “pet quota.”

The decision was announced in an official statement on the university’s Facebook page on Saturday night, citing the prevailing unstable situation on campus. An emergency syndicate meeting has been called for Sunday (Sept 21) to review the overall situation and determine the next course of action.

Earlier in the evening, hundreds of students surrounded the vice-chancellor’s residence, issuing an ultimatum to cancel the pet quota by night. Students from 17 residential halls joined the protest simultaneously, escalating the movement.

Meanwhile, following a Senate meeting at around 8 pm, RU teachers, officials, and employees announced a full-day strike on Sunday, accusing students of insulting the vice-chancellor and faculty members during the protests.

The campus remains tense as both sides prepare for Sunday’s decisive meetings.
