Dhaka, Aug 28 (V7N) – The Chhatra Dal-backed panel for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections has announced a 10-point manifesto, pledging reforms in education, safety, health, research, and student rights. The Abid-Hamim-Mayed Parishad declared its commitments at a press briefing near the Invincible Bangla on Thursday afternoon.
Panel Vice-President candidate Md. Abidul Islam Khan presented the manifesto, emphasizing priorities such as quality education and research, a safe and inclusive campus, freedom of dress, and abolition of the evening law.
Key Points of the Manifesto
Safe & Inclusive Campus:

Elimination of guest room–public room culture, forced political programs, and campus terrorism.

Protection against harassment, ragging, and misinformation through an independent “Student Protection Cell” and a 24-hour emergency helpline.

Installation of CCTV cameras, campus lighting, and prohibition of outsiders in halls.
Student Facilities & Welfare:

Expansion of classrooms and new hall construction to guarantee every student “a seat and a study table” from day one.

Subsidized, healthy food at canteens with nutritionist oversight; new canteens at academic hubs such as Mukarram Bhaban and Curzon Hall.

Effective pest control in halls and better living conditions.
Women’s Rights & Freedom of Dress:

Freedom of attire and strict enforcement against sexual harassment.

Round-the-clock female doctor at the medical center; sanitary pad vending machines in women’s halls.

Curfew reform to extend night entry hours, simplify emergency exit permissions, and allow safe temporary hall stays for non-resident female students.

Establishment of hostels for unemployed female graduates and a “Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fund.”
Healthcare & Special Needs:

24/7 medical corners in halls, ambulance facilities, and free emergency medicines.

Student health insurance and a Mental Wellbeing Center at TSC.

Disability-friendly infrastructure, ramps, Braille materials, and exam support for students with special needs.
Academic & Research Development:

Regular review of curricula to match global standards, with credit transfer options.

Digitalized central library with global journals and databases.

Practical training, internships, IT and foreign language courses to improve employability.

Measures to curb political influence in teacher recruitment and promote merit-based hiring.

Improved facilities and allowances for MPhil and PhD researchers.
Transport & Sustainability:

Battery-powered shuttle buses and expanded university bus routes with GPS tracking and a student mobile app.

Safer internal roads, pedestrian-friendly walkways, and promotion of bicycles to reduce congestion.

Division of the campus into Green, Yola, and Red zones to regulate outsiders’ access.
The panel said its mission is to make Dhaka University “a model of quality education, inclusivity, and student welfare.”
