Ukhiya, Nov 07 (V7N) – Information has emerged about three bodies lying in a remote hilly area of Hnila Union in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Police received the report on Friday afternoon after the bodies were reportedly spotted in the hills east of the Nayapara and Leda Rohingya refugee camps.
A joint forces operation is underway in the area following a gunfight with armed criminals during an anti-human trafficking operation on Thursday afternoon, in which an army soldier was killed.
Since the incident, members of the Army, police, the Special Security Force (SRB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been conducting coordinated operations in the hills.
Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) ANM Sajedur Rahman confirmed that police had received credible information about three bodies in the remote hills of Hnila.
He said a team of law enforcement personnel had been dispatched to recover the bodies. However, reaching the location could take some time because of the difficult terrain.
The SP added that joint operations against armed criminals and criminal networks in the hills were continuing. The identities of the deceased and the causes of their deaths would be determined through recovery, post-mortem examinations and further investigation, he said.
Several officials involved in the operation, speaking on condition of anonymity, said members of armed criminal and abduction networks operating in the hills were under pressure following the intensified operations. However, they said the circumstances surrounding the three reported deaths had not yet been established.
Local residents said the hills east of the Nayapara and Leda camps are covered in dense forests and difficult to access. They alleged that various criminal groups have been active in the area for a long time.
Police said the investigation would establish the identities of the deceased and determine how they died.
